G’day. I've been putting off writing this blog post for a while because I'm generally a pretty private person (cameras and I are not friends), but I really want to share the story behind HESO with you, and to do that I've gotta get a bit personal.
I’m Aaron. Feel free to call me Azza. HESO may have only just launched in late 2018, but it’s something that has been rattling around in my head for a lot longer than it should have.
HESO Men’s Grooming is my newest baby but definitely not my first. Besides my 2 wild boys (4 and 7), I'd like to think I've spawned some other things worthy of a mention too...
For the last (almost) 10 years my other half Phoebe and I have been busy making skincare for women (check out Happy Skincare) and natural deodorant (head to Woohoo Body), but now the hour has cometh for HESO.
I'm pretty chuffed that these products aren’t just ideas and aspirations anymore. They’re now here in full colour and 3D and - just quietly - it's some high quality work. Maybe even my best to date.
HESO means “HEart and SOul” because I wanted to create a brand that’s dedicated to the men of this world who like to look past the obvious and see that every choice has an impact.
HESO has been created with heart and soul from start to finish. Yes they are products that keep you looking as sharp as a rat with a gold tooth but it’s important that we make this planet a better place than how we found it.
The range is all natural, 100% vegan and 100% cruelty free. I choose ethical and sustainable ingredients, and I’m on a mission to source the most eco-friendly packaging possible. After being in the biz for nearly 10 years I know how to spot the bullshit.
I’m a true Ginger and know the pitfalls of freckles and sensitive skin. My dermatologist told me to move to Iceland because the sun in OZ is not my friend. It doesn’t help that I grew up on the NSW mid north coast surfing whenever I got the chance. So I know a thing or 2 about skin issues and damage.
The ocean has always called me, so when uni didn’t seem like a good fit I decided to join the Royal Australian Navy. For a while there I was the Boarding Officer on patrol boats off Darwin and while I was there I saw a lot of illegal fishing, and some pretty ugly truths about shark finning.
Shark finning is killing our oceans and it really rubs me up the wrong way. Part of my inspiration for the HESO range was to create a brand that can help do something about this sad practice.
Aside from heading out on my boat to singlehandedly put a stop to shark finning (sadly not an option), one of the best ways to help the cause is by making sure your dollars are making a difference.
HESO Men’s Grooming has teamed up with 1% for the Planet to donate 1% of every sale to keeping our oceans clean and making progress in the fight against shark finning.
1% doesn't sound like a huge amount, but a lot of 1%'s can change things up.

It’s a fact: facial hair can tell you a lot about a man. Whether he lives in the jungle or on camera. Whether he’s a corporate bloke or a father of three. Regardless, for most of us lads, grooming can be a magical myth we can never get right.
